* Psalmopoeus and Tapinauchenius have been considered part the subfamily Selenocosmiinae by some researchers since they lack urticaceous setae and have the eVolutionary beginnings of stridulatory organs. West et. al. 2008 treated Psalmopoeus as Aviculariinae, the subfamily where both it and Tapinauchenius have traditionally been placed. Until a division is published, they are listed here as Aviculariinae.
† This genus is controversial and many experts believe it belongs in the family Barychelidae. However, it doesn't fit into any barychelid genera and is currently listed by Platnick as Theraphosidae until the debate is resolved.
