MICHAEL JACOBI'S SPIDER SHOPPE
Over the course of several decades of arachnid and reptile breeding, my projects have taken on a variety of business names. Upon moving to Nashville in August 2000, these projects were transformed into what was (somewhat cumbersomely) called "Michael Jacobi's Spider Shoppe and Living Terrarium" although my actual business name was - and is - Exotic Fauna Enterprises. The "Living Terrarium" was a short-lived specialty retail store selling herps & inverts, while the "Spider Shoppe" was primarily an online retailer of arachnids. Once the store closed the business moniker was shortened to "Michael Jacobi's Spider Shoppe". In 2007, this business was closed when I relocated to the Seattle area to take over the operation of Alex Orleans' TARANTULAS.com and manage Alex's primary company, Northwest Zoological Supply. In 2013 I left Seattle and Alex's employ. Now the Spider Shoppe is reborn.
With my recent return to my suburban Chicago hometown I once again reevaluate my involvement with both the arachnocultural and herpetocultural hobbies and their commerce. I have no interest in involving myself in mass retail sales by selling small orders of commonly available species to hobbyists and the pet trade. I prefer to keep to myself, semi-retired in a manner of speaking, and focus on the animals and offer more selective stock to the serious keeper. My intention is to continue with breeding projects that interest me and distribute both my own production and that of other international breeders, but only on a limited basis both retail with a $150 minimum order to breeders and wholesale with a $500 minimum order to professional dealers. Thus my offerings (click here for current price list) focus on rarities and my own favorites - arboreals and some Old World species.
I suppose I am best known for the breeding of Poecilotheria, both alone and in partnership with Alex at TARANTULAS.com. However, this challenge is finished and the market for Poecilotheria has become stale. I only intend to continue to keep and breed my favorite tiger spider — P. subfusca — and the sapphire blue P. metallica. Since I have a passion for the arboreal spiders, I will continue with other arboreal genera as well as some of the rarer terrestrial Asian & African theraphosids. Please email me if you wish to sell anything on a wholesale basis.
